Example: How can I use the textbook with my AOL browser?
How can I get characters or objects to display in my interactive simulations?
Please do NOT update QuickTime on the computer which you are running your Kinetic Books physics text or virtual labs.

We have just learned that the most recent release (v 7.3.1) of QuickTime has specifically removed functionality required by our product and many others.

We are pursuing all avenues directly with Apple as well as possible ways to work around the issue. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, even as we feel it is not of our making.

The latest release of QuickTime disables the Flash media handler. This impacts many applications, including some of the content on Apple’s own site. Many people are raising their “voices” on the message boards to Apple.

The impact on the Kinetic Books physics texts and labs is the disappearance of characters in many of the simulations.

If you do upgrade QuickTime on the PC, you can uninstall QuickTime and reinstall the version that comes on our CD or go to Apple's site to get an older version that still includes the functionality removed in Quick Time 7.3.1 and above: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime72forwindows.html

If you do upgrade QuickTime on the Mac, we have released a temporary fix and it is available by selecting the "Check for updates" in the footer of the main table of contents page of your textbook.

From the Quicktime 7.3.1 update release notes:

Impact: Multiple vulnerabilities in QuickTime's Flash media handler

Description: Multiple vulnerabilities exist in QuickTime's Flash media handler, the most serious of which may lead to arbitrary code execution.

With this update, the Flash media handler in QuickTime is disabled except for a limited number of existing QuickTime movies that are known to be safe.

If you have a version of QuickTime that is below version 7.3.1 and you still don't see the simulations, please click here to enable flash in the simulations.

Thank you for using Kinetic Books products.
