Georgia, Kentucky Adopt Kinetic Books’ Physics Textbooks

Company maintains100% state approval rating for full line of digital physics textbooks

SEATTLE, September 20, 2007 - Kinetic Books Company, the innovative digital publisher of Kinetic TextbooksTM, today announced that the Georgia Department of Education and the Kentucky State Textbook Commission have formally adopted the company’s full line of digital physics textbooks as standard curriculum. This news upholds the company’s accomplishment of receiving approval from every state that has gone through a physics text approval process since Kinetic Books introduced its products in 2005.

The digital textbooks, Conceptual Physics, Principles of Physics, and Physics for Scientists and Engineers, provide three levels of physics instruction, meet curriculum standards, address a wider range of learning styles, and take full advantage of the benefits of a computer. All for one-third the cost of a traditional, printed textbook - starting at $24.95 per student. The fully-interactive textbooks and labs include hundreds of simulations, thousands of animations, audio, video, and multiple self-assessment tools for students. They weigh less than printed textbooks, are easier to update (so that students have access to the most recent material), and take advantage of digital capabilities such as computer-graded homework and animated lectures.

"When we earn state adoptions and approvals, we feel this is not just a win for Kinetic Books, but for digital curriculum publishing," said Mark Bretl, vice president, Kinetic Books Company. "If alternative publishers can create comprehensive, standards-compliant educational material that is adopted and approved at the state level, it shatters the old belief that we can’t compete in the same arena as higher-priced, traditional paper textbooks from the traditional publishing companies."

Ryan Depew, a physics instructor at Sayre School in Lexington, Kentucky believes that Kinetic Books has helped reach more students and increase class enrollment by making physics more enjoyable: "Overall, this curriculum increases the learning potential that each student has on their own. Several learning styles are addressed at once. Students with poor reading comprehension are still able to learn because they have the interactive videos and practice problems to work with. Audio learners are able to listen to the recordings. When students have homework problems, many times they freeze up and get frustrated. In class, working together, they show that they can learn. Test scores are better with this format too."

Depew continued, "About the only thing this book doesn't do is make kids get up and dance...though we've been close at times."
